19. Tied the knot

Two months has gone by without a single entry.

To say the least, last two months have been life changing. I got married and I moved to Victoria. The whole wedding planning and the lead up has been such a rollercoaster.

I got married on the 20th of Feb 2021, soon after a five day snap lockdown in Victoria. It was a perfect day and the whole wedding story is never gonna get old. I married during a pandemic!

One of the positives from COVID is the fact that I can now work from anywhere in Australia. I decided to take the maximum out of the flexibility and moved to Victoria. I rented out a place and started our life there. It has been great so far!

Countries are rolling out their vaccine programs in a snail’s pace. However, I’m sure that it’s going to ramp up in the near future. Compared to the rest of the world, specially Europe and USA, we in Australia are blessed. It could also mean that we are isolated from the rest of the world, however, it’s a positive at least for the time being.

I started reading a lot of books in parallel. Three books about software and the book Range. It’s a new challenge for me as I have never read books this way. However, I made good progress in all the departments.

I enjoyed reading the book Range, which opened up my eyes towards the importance of gaining cross disciplinary knowledge. That’s essential as it ensures that my specialization in software does not prevent me from approaching a problem with a broader vision. In the future, I should mix books across unrelated disciplines to stimulate my mind so that it can formulate connections and understand relationships between different fields and technologies. I’m almost at the end of the book and I’m planning to re-read it in a couple of months.

The other two books which really opened up my eyes towards how crappy some of my software work are Clean Code and Clean Architecture. They are two books which sort of teach common sense to Software Engineers and a must read at the very early days of the career. Too bad I didn’t give enough attention to books.

What am I reading?

 - C++ Programming Language (360 / 1279 = 28.8 %)
 - Range: How Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World by David Epstein (53%)
 - Clean Code (26%)
 - Clean Architecture (8%)
